DESCRIPTION
The
BUFALO 500 is a universal machine for the modern bookbinding industry. It is designed
for a large range of work and guarantees economical and high quality production.
Furthermore no expensive special machines
are needed. In only 5-30 minutes the change over from hotmelt to cold glue and
from one book format to another is achieved. It only takes 2-3 copies are needed
for adjusting, thus no large quantities of books need to be wasted. If needed,
the machine may be stopped at every station, in order to carry
out adjustments.

INFEED
SECTION
| On
the infeed section the gathered signatures are introduced into the clamp. Depending
on the book format one-up or two-up production may be processed. Furthermore the
milling depth is infinitely adjustable, ranging from 0 mm for thread-bound books
to 5 mm. |
MAIN MILLING STATION \ NOTCHING \ SANDING \ ROUGHING
| The
carbide- tipped milling cutter is equipped with two moulding teeth. They produce
cross creasings ( notches ) on the spine of 0.3 to 0.5 mm into which the glue
penetrates like a thread. Additionally, the paper is roughened by a grinding disc
and the fibers felted, thus a very strong binding is achieved. |
HOT
MELT GLUE STATION \ SPINE \ SIDE
| The
gluing is carried out by two gluing rollers for the spine and two additional side
gluing Rollers which apply glue ( 5 mm) to the side of the book. Either the one-section
or the two-section glue pot may be used. In the two section glue pot, different
types of glue for side and spine gluing may be used. The temperature of the glue
is controlled by two thermocouples. |
COLD
GLUE STATION
The BUFALO 500
may be fitted with a cold glue pot.
In this case however, the vertical delivery option is recommended. |
PRESSING \ NIPPING STATION
| After the covers
are fed, are properly applied by hydraulic pressure of approx. 90 kg, from the
bottom and the sides. Pressure time is infinitely adjustable from 0.5 to 5 seconds.
Due to the high pressure, covers up to 300g may be processed without scoring.

LINING STATION
A Gauze and Lining
is a further additional equipment for the press station. The gauze or lining material
is placed under the book spine automatically and cut off to the required length
( maximum spine length of 480mm ). Then it is placed around the book, and pressure
is applied.The lining overlaps the spine 6-12mm on either side, the gauze overlaps
up to 17mm. The lining allows a maximum book thickness of 45mm, the gauzing a
maximum of 60mm. These additional equipment allow the adhesive binding and , at
the same time, the gauzing of book blocks as well as the gluing and gauzing of
thread bound book blocks. Both stations may also be used in two up production.

SUCTION COVER FEEDER
| The press station
may also be equipped with a suction feeder. It allows the feeding of maximum spine
length of 550mm but is only applicable in one up production. |
 
SLIDE OR VERTICAL DELIVERY
| Because
the BUFALO 500 is designed for hotmelt adhesive, the books drop through a slide
into the delivery station. For cold gluing we recommend our vertical delivery
where the books are carried on both sides and drop slowly into the delivery station. |
